George Mason University has established Gateway as its new model for intensive English language and international academic programs, previously delivered through INTO Mason. These programs will continue with a strong focus on academic preparation and successful transition into degree study. Under this model, the university will lead academic programs and student support, while INTO University Partnerships will continue solely as a recruitment partner supporting international student enrollment.

What is Gateway?

Gateway is George Mason University’s program for non-native English speaking students who have been admitted to, or are seeking admission to, George Mason and need additional academic preparation or English language support as they begin their student journey. It provides additional resources and advising to help students succeed in a U.S. university environment.

Through Gateway, students can:

  • Build the academic skills needed for university coursework
  • Strengthen their English language proficiency
  • Receive guidance and support as they transition to a U.S. academic environment 

Students who successfully complete the program can continue in their undergraduate or graduate degree programs at George Mason. These programs were previously delivered through INTO Mason.

Why is George Mason moving from INTO Mason to Gateway?

In response to changes in the international education landscape, George Mason is now evolving its approach to international and English language programs through a new model called Gateway. This shift allows the university to more fully lead academic programs and student support, strengthening alignment with institutional priorities and enhancing the student experience. INTO University Partnerships will continue to serve as a recruitment partner, supporting international student enrollment.

How will this transition affect course offerings or academic programs?

Academic departments will continue to partner with Gateway on programs as they do today, and existing offerings will remain in place through the fall 2026 semester.

What changes can currently enrolled students expect?

There are no immediate changes to your courses, program requirements, or support services. Your academic experience will continue as planned.

For currently enrolled and new students, billing and financial communications will come directly from Student Accounts rather than INTO University Partnerships.

Will there be a change in student housing?

Students will work directly with the university regarding all on-campus housing. Communication will be provided to the student via the application process.
