English Language Scores

All George Mason students must have full command of academic English to be successful in their studies.

George Mason requires that applicants demonstrate English language proficiency—by an exam or a waiver—for admission consideration, regardless of citizenship.

English language entry requirements vary by program. View Gateway's program list to find the requirements for your program. 

Gateway accepts the following English language proficiency exams for eligible programs:

• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

• International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

• Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE)

• Duolingo English Test

• George Mason Academic English (AE)
