Gateway’s programs empower non-native English speaking students to reach their academic goals while providing additional English language, academic, and cultural support to help with the transition to George Mason.

George Mason offers multiple routes to admission at the undergraduate and graduate levels if you do not yet meet the academic and English language requirements for direct entry into a degree program.

Note: Current Gateway (formerly INTO Mason) students and those beginning their program in fall 2026 should consult the George Mason catalog for descriptions of their programs and requirements.

Academic English

Helps students acquire the English language skills required to be successful in the academic programs at George Mason

Undergraduate Programs

Freshman International Year One (Two-Term)

Allows students to earn credits toward a bachelor’s degree even if they do not meet the academic and English requirements for direct admission to George Mason

Freshman International Direct

Provides additional English language support for undergraduate students who meet George Mason's academic admission requirements but have slightly below the required English language proficiency

Transfer International Direct

Allows undergraduate students who have previously earned academic credits at a university in their home country or at a U.S. college or university to continue their studies at George Mason

Graduate Programs

Graduate International Direct

Provides students the academic foundation, essential language skills, and cultural knowledge to successfully move on to a graduate program at George Mason
